What is a plant growth regulator?

A plant growth regulator, or PGR, is a substance that changes the way a plant grows and develops, either by imitating the plant's own hormones or by altering how those hormones act. Hormones are the plant's internal messengers: they tell roots to branch, buds to open, seeds to wake up and fruit to ripen.

In day-to-day farming, the term covers a wider set of products. When a grower asks for a PGR for plants, they often mean a plant growth promoter, a natural product based on humic acid, seaweed or amino acids that supports the plant's own processes. These are not synthetic hormones, and they do not replace fertilizers. Both kinds are explained below to make the differences clear.

Plant Growth Regulator Types

As Plant Growth Regulator (PGR) Manufacturers, Suppliers, Dealers, Traders and Exporters in Delhi, we help agricultural businesses understand the different plant growth regulator categories and explore suitable crop growth support products.

Plant growth regulators come from two sources: natural plant hormones (phytohormones) and man-made chemicals that imitate or influence them. Scientists classify them into five classical families, plus a few newer ones.

The five families:

Family Function Examples Use in the field
Auxins (promoters) Promote cell elongation, root formation and apical dominance, and help fruit and leaves stay attached to the plant Indole-3-acetic acid (natural), NAA and other synthetic auxins Rooting of cuttings and reduction of early drop
Gibberellins (promoters) Lengthen stems, end seed and bud dormancy, trigger germination and flowering, and help produce seedless fruit Gibberellic acid (GA3) Germination, fruit size and control of flowering
Cytokinins (promoters) Stimulate cell division, activate lateral buds, support chlorophyll and delay leaf ageing Kinetin and zeatin (natural), synthetic cytokinins Branching and longer-lasting green leaves
Abscisic acid (inhibitor) The plant's stress hormone: closes leaf pores to conserve water and promotes dormancy Abscisic acid (ABA) Drought response, plus seed and bud dormancy
Ethylene (promoter and inhibitor) A gaseous hormone that controls fruit ripening, leaf and fruit drop, and ageing Ethylene (natural), ethephon (synthetic) Ripening and abscission

Newer, specialised classes of hormones:

  • Brassinosteroids support cell division, stem growth and stress tolerance.
  • Strigolactones shape root architecture and shoot branching, and help the plant interact with soil microbes.
  • Jasmonates and salicylic acid drive the plant's defence response against pests, disease and physical or environmental stress.
  • Polyamines, nitric oxide and karrikins play supporting roles in tissue development, stress signalling and germination.

Promoters, inhibitors and dual-action regulators

PGRs can also be grouped by the direction of their effect. Auxins, gibberellins and cytokinins mainly promote growth. Abscisic acid mostly restrains growth so that the plant can survive stress. Ethylene works in both directions depending on the stage and tissue. Growers also use growth retardants to keep tall crops compact, which is a separate use with its own rules.

A note on usage: hormone-type regulators are potent and need accurate dosing, correct timing and proper registration. Use them only as directed on a registered label and on an agronomist's advice.

Our Plant Growth Promoters and Biostimulants Range

Pure Grow's range lies on the plant growth promoter and biostimulant side. We do not sell these products as synthetic hormones. Through nutrition, soil health and natural compounds, they support the plant's own growth systems:

Our products How they support growth
Seaweed (green and black, powder, flakes, liquid) Seaweed contains small amounts of natural growth-active compounds. It is used to support rooting, shoot growth and recovery from stress, the same areas in which auxins and cytokinins work.
Humic range (potassium humate, humic granules) Helps roots absorb nutrients and improves soil structure. Research also links humic substances to better root growth.
Fulvic range (fulvic acid, potassium fulvate) Small molecules that enter the plant quickly and help transport nutrients, especially micronutrients.
Amino acid range Ready-made building blocks that save the plant energy, especially during flowering, fruit set and stress.
Organic carbon Feeds soil life and improves soil structure for healthier roots.

How do plant growth regulators work inside plants?

Plants run on signals. A hormone is made in one part, travels to another and switches a response on or off. Classical PGRs add to or change these signals. Growth promoters such as ours cooperate with the signals rather than overriding them. They make nutrients easier to absorb, provide ready materials and improve the soil around the roots, so the plant's natural signalling can work properly.

That is why these products work best on top of a sound fertilizer program and never as a replacement for one.

  • Potassium Humate Flakes. Flakes with the same humic benefits, easy to handle and quick to dissolve in a tank. It is a practical choice for dealers and blenders who serve both soil and spray customers.
  • Potassium Humate Powder. A fine powder for soil application, blending and foliar use. It improves soil structure and helps roots absorb nutrients more easily.

Humic granules

  • Humic Bentonite Granules (Coated and Non-Coated). Bentonite clay carries the humic acid and conditions the soil as well. The coated grade is easier to handle and spread, while the non-coated grade is a simple, economical choice. Both are used as a basal dose.
  • Humic Granules (Non-Coated). A plain granular humic product for broadcast and basal use, intended for growers who wish to build up the soil without spraying.
  • Humic Shiny Ball. Smooth, round granules that spread evenly and look uniform in the pack, useful for retail packs and for growers who prefer a clean, consistent product.

Fulvic range

  • Fulvic Acid 80%. A concentrated, small-molecule acid that plants absorb readily, so it suits foliar spray and drip. It helps carry nutrients, especially micronutrients, into the plant.
  • Potassium Fulvate. A soluble, fast-acting fulvic acid with potassium, for spray and fertigation where a quick and clean input is needed.

Amino acid range

  • Amino Acid 80% (Soya Protein Base). A high-strength powder made from soya protein, applied as a spray or through drip. During flowering, fruit set and stress, amino acids give the plant ready building blocks.
  • Amino Acid 50% (Soya Protein Base). The same soya-based product at a more economical strength, ideal for routine spraying and blending.
  • Amino 60% Liquid (Medium Thick). A ready-to-use liquid of medium consistency that pours easily and mixes quickly.
  • Amino 60% Liquid (Isabian Honey Thick). The same 60% strength in a thicker, honey-like liquid, for buyers who prefer a denser feel in the can.

Seaweed range

  • Green Seaweed Powder. Supports rooting, shoot growth and recovery from stress. It dissolves readily for spray or fertigation.
  • Black Seaweed Powder. A dark seaweed powder often chosen for fruit, vegetable and plantation crops, applied as a spray or through drip.
  • Black Seaweed Flakes. Black seaweed in flake form, easy to dissolve and convenient for bulk buyers and blenders.
  • Green Seaweed (Liquid). A ready liquid seaweed for quick foliar application when time is short and mixing is not desired.

Organic carbon and combination products

  • Organic Carbon (Soil). A carbon source applied to the soil that feeds soil microbes and improves structure, building long-term soil health.
  • Organic Carbon 100% Soluble. A fully soluble carbon product that passes through drip and fertigation and delivers carbon directly to the root zone.
  • Humic + Amino + Fulvic + Seaweed (Liquid). A single liquid with four growth-supporting ingredients. As a liquid organic growth booster, it offers growers broad cover in one pass, with fewer products to buy and mix.

Best Plant Growth Regulator Products by Crop Growth Stage

As Plant Growth Regulator (PGR) Exporters, Traders, Dealers, Suppliers and Manufacturers in Delhi, we help buyers explore product options by crop development stage, intended application and product-specific recommendations.

Objective Products worth considering Ideal timing
Plant growth regulator for root growth Potassium Humate, Humic Granules, Organic Carbon, Green Seaweed At sowing, transplanting and early growth
Plant growth regulator for flowering Amino Acid, Black Seaweed, Fulvic Acid Before and during bud and flower stages
Plant growth regulator for fruit development Amino Acid, Potassium Fulvate, Black Seaweed After fruit set and during fruit filling
Plant growth regulator for crop yield Humic + Amino + Fulvic + Seaweed, Potassium Humate Throughout the crop cycle, along with fertilizer rounds
Plant growth regulator for flowering and fruiting Amino Acid and Seaweed together From early bud to fruit filling
Plant growth regulator for better crop growth Humic or Fulvic range with Organic Carbon Early and mid growth

How to choose the best PGR for your crop?

No single plant growth regulator is the best for every crop. The right choice depends on crop, soil, stage and method.

  • Match the form to the method. Crystals, soluble powders and liquids suit drip and spray, whereas granules suit basal and broadcast use.
  • Match the product to the stage. Humic and organic carbon build roots early. Amino acid and seaweed support flowering and fruit.
  • Consider the soil. Sandy, low-organic soils gain the most from humic and organic carbon inputs.
  • Keep it simple. The combination liquid saves time and tank space when one product has to do several jobs.

Not sure? Share the crop, stage and area with us and we will suggest a plan.

How to apply plant growth regulators on the farm?

Below is a general guide to plant growth regulator spray, solution and dosage. Always follow the label and technical sheet of the product you buy.

  • Flowering and Fruit Development: When used correctly, suitable crop nutrition and crop-specific growth regulators can support the related developmental processes.
  • Responsible Application: Follow the dosage, timing and application instructions given for each product so that it performs effectively.
  • Realistic Yield Expectations: Crop yield depends on weather, irrigation, soil fertility and crop management, and no product can guarantee a bigger harvest.

Using PGR Together with NPK and Micronutrients

Growth promoters do not replace the main nutrients; they help the crop make better use of them. A sound program combines macronutrient (NPK) fertilizers, such as our water-soluble grades, with a PGR product at the right stage, and includes micronutrients like zinc, iron and boron wherever a test reveals a shortage. Our micronutrient range goes hand in hand with these products.

Common Questions and Answers

A plant growth regulator is a substance that affects how a plant grows, usually by acting like its natural hormones or by influencing them. In everyday farming, the term is also used for plant growth promoters made from humic acid, seaweed and amino acids.

There are five classical groups: auxins, gibberellins, cytokinins, abscisic acid and ethylene. The newer classes include brassinosteroids, strigolactones, jasmonates, salicylic acid and polyamines.

Gibberellins are best known for breaking seed and bud dormancy and triggering germination. Abscisic acid works in the opposite way and keeps seeds dormant.

Auxins support root formation and cell elongation, whereas cytokinins stimulate cell division and branching and slow leaf ageing. Together, they keep root and shoot growth in balance.

Strictly speaking, they are plant growth promoters or biostimulants and not hormone-type regulators, although the trade commonly calls them PGRs. They support the plant's own growth and cannot replace fertilizers.

They support or modify the plant's natural signals. Humic and fulvic acids help roots take up nutrients, seaweed supplies natural growth-active compounds, and amino acids provide building blocks during flowering and stress.

No single product is the best. Decide on the basis of crop, soil, stage and method. Humic products and organic carbon suit early root growth, while amino acid and seaweed suit flowering and fruit.

Potassium humate, humic granules, organic carbon and green seaweed are commonly used at sowing, transplanting and early growth.

Amino acid, black seaweed and fulvic products are commonly used around the bud, flower and fruit-filling stages.

Dissolve the product in a little water and top up the tank, then spray in the early morning or late afternoon at the label dose, and do a jar test before mixing it with other products.

It depends on the product, crop and stage. Indicative ranges are given in the table on this page, and our team can confirm the exact dose for your case.

Not exactly. A liquid bio fertilizer usually contains living microbes, whereas our liquid products, such as the humic, amino, fulvic and seaweed liquid, are organic growth boosters made from natural extracts. Both help crops, but in different ways.

Yes. Growth promoters are designed to work together with macronutrient (NPK) fertilizers and help the crop use them better.

Yes. Share the product, quantity and destination, and we will send a quotation with packing and documentation details.

Humic acid is the larger molecule and mainly improves soil and root conditions over time. Fulvic acid is smaller and enters the plant fast, which makes it suitable for foliar and drip use.
